Water Works Total Rehab Utilizes Innovative Aquabike

Water Works Total Rehab is an outpatient physical therapy and wellness center located in Naples. The facility was founded by its first patient, Michael Miceli and his physical therapist Deborah Devol.

In 1994, Miceli was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS), GBS is a disorder where the body’s immune system attacks part of the Peripheral Nervous System. The disorder includes varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs, it can spread to the arms and upper body, sometimes causing paralysis. Miceli’s condition required him to rehabilitate his weakness in the pool.

In the summer of 2008 Miceli passed away, leaving his beneficial legacy behind. Devol is still part owner and message therapist at Water Works Total Rehab.

“I have been a physical therapist for eighteen years in hospitals, outpatient facilities, skilled nursing facilities and by far, the best outpatient center is Water Works. It was a pleasure to work in a patient oriented setting. Michael Miceli was truly a special person to have given Naples this unique place. I am sure Michael is proud that his dream carries on,” said Mary E. Stevens, MA PT, at Water Works 2006-2009.

Today, Water Works Total Rehab has grown tremendously and is a leader in the field of aquatic therapy, with cutting edge aquatic protocols such as the HYDRORIDER Aquabike. The HYDRORIDER Aquatic bike is a water bike made for cycling in an environment of resistance. It can be used inside or outside the water.

The resistance is determined by four paddle wheels that are adjustable on three levels. The longer the paddle is pulled out, the greater the surface volume of water taken in causing greater resistance. The greater resistance and speed, the greater the aquatic conditioning. The 22 pound Aquabike has anti-skid protection and can adjust to pool depth, the seat moves vertically and horizontally and its steel materials resist thermal salt and mineral damage.

With a referral base of over 250 physicians and clients, Water Works Total Rehab is a full service rehabilitation and wellness center. They specialize in chronic pain, pre and post orthopedic, post surgical, balance issues, Lumbar stabilization and sports issues.

The wellness program includes aquatic classes, an MS Program, golf fitness and message therapy. The 20’ x 47’ heated salt water pool helps to give patients more buoyancy during their workouts. Salt water gives patients more buoyancy, decreasing stress to muscles, joints and bones.

“When I come out of class, I feel good all over! The therapists are thorough, caring and extremely knowledgeable. The entire staff is courteous and friendly. Water Works is a great place to be!” said Brenda Cox, patient.

Water Works Total Rehab is located at 999 Trail Terrace Drive Naples, FL 34103. For additional information or to make an appointment visit www.waterworkstotalrehab.com or phone 239-649-2222.
